What is a radiologist?

A radiologist is a medical doctor who specializes in the performance and interpretation of x-rays and imaging procedures. Like other medical doctors, radiologists have spent many years in training including four years of college, four of more years of medical school and at least five years of residency. Radiologists’ fields of study include the study of various procedures and techniques in radiology; physics; radiation safety and radiation effects on the human body; therapeutic techniques involving imaging and diagnostic treatments of diseases and illnesses. All the radiologists of High Point Radiological Services are board certified and complete many hours of continuing education every year.

What role does the radiologist play in my treatment?

Our radiologists are liaisons between you and your doctor and play a vital role in your treatment. They perform and interpret imaging and procedures that help diagnose your disease and lead to treatment options. They read a variety of imaging studies including plain film x-rays, CT, MRIs, ultrasounds and fluoroscopy. Some of our doctors are skilled in interventional radiology. These doctors specialize in providing patients minimally invasive, targeted treatments like Kyphoplasty and Veterbralplasty, dialysis access and some pain management. Procedures like theses often replace open surgical procedures.

What insurance plans do you accept?

We accept most major health plans including Medicare and Medicaid. You should always check with your insurance company to be sure you are receiving care from one of our in-network providers.

You are not contracted with my insurance company. Will this be applied to my out of network policy?

Not necessarily. According to North Carolina law, when patients receive treatment at an in-network hospital where the only providers of service are out-of-network, insurance companies must process the claim under the in-network policy. It is important that you contact your insurance carrier to determine if your plan falls under the RAPS provision of the Patients Protection statutes of state law. In some cases, self-funded plans will not be covered under this law.

Are the radiologists responsible for the other employees in the hospital?

All of our doctors are employed by High Point Radiological Services. They do not work for the hospital or have any control over hospital employees.
